New Year diets are all very well but the time comes when you need a Chelsea bun. When that moment arises these are the Chelsea buns that you should be making. Sticky, rich and delicious. These Traditional Chelsea Buns are heavenly served warm from the oven for breakfast or a tea time snack.
Ingredients
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 and 1/4 tsp yeast
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 egg
- salt - a pinch
- 1/4 cup butter
- peanuts (or any choice of nuts)
- Nutella / hazelnut spread (you can choose your preferred spread)
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon powder
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg powder
Method
1. In a bowl take lukewarm milk and add sugar and yeast. Allow the yeast to get activated.
2. In a bowl add add flour, whole egg, salt and combine. Add the activated yeast gradually in addition to water and butter.
3. Once the dough becomes soft, allow it to prove for 2 hours under oven light or until it doubles in size.
4. Once the dough is fermented, dust the flour, mildly knead it and flatten it on the counter top to form a 1 inch thin sheet.
5. In a bowl mix the peanuts with cinnamon powder and nutmeg powder.
6. Gently spread some butter on top, add the nut mix and hazelnut spread in a random manner and evenly. Start rolling one edge to form the roll until the edge forms tight.
7. Mark even spaces on top of the roll. Cut the markings by using a thread. Keep the thread under the roll and cut like a scissor across the marking.
8. Prove the rolls on baking tray for 30 minutes. Brush mildly with egg wash. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
Notes. - The baking time may vary depending on the quantity and oven. You can add a sweet glaze over the baked cinnamon rolls, its optional.
