Shepherd's Pie

Shepherd’s Pie is one of my favorite comfort foods. Layers of beef, peas, carrots and creamy mashed potatoes are only made better with the addition of Toasted Onion Herb Seasoning. While traditionally it’s made with ground lamb, we’ve swapped it for beef.

Ingredients

2 tsp sunflower oil (1 TBS)

4 large potatoes

1/2 kg beef

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1/4 tsp fennel powder

BEEF SEASONINGS

- Pepper 1tsp

- Chilli powder 1tsp

- Cumin 1/4 tsp

- Onion powder 1/2 tsp

- Garlic powder 1/2 tsp

- Tomato sauce 1 tin

- Coriander powder 1/2 tsp

- Salt

2 medium size Onions diced

1 tsp ginger garlic paste

1/4 tsp pepper

1 cup carrots

1 cup peas

1 tin tomato sauce

Thyme

Rosemary

1 tsp Flour (maida)

1/2 tsp pepper

Scallions/Spring Onion

1 whole egg

Milk (at room temperature, add it to smash potato as needed to combine)

Instructions

1. Boil 4 large potatoes with salt until it becomes soft.

2. Pressure cook the beef using the beef seasonings (mentioned above). Strain the beef and ground it using food processor. Reserve the beef stock from the pressure cooker.

3. In a pan saute the ground beef in oil. Cook with seasonings - garlic powder, fennel powder and oil. Roast it mildly.

4. In another pan, saute onions diced in oil until it becomes translucent. Add 1 tsp ginger garlic paste, pepper, carrots and peas and 1 tin tomato sauce. Blend it well. 5. In addition add some herbs - rosemary and thyme. To increase the thickness consistency, add 1 tsp flour.

6. At this point add the ground beef, lastly add the reserved beef stock.

ADJUST THE SPICE LEVEL AND SEASONINGS AS PER YOUR TASTE.

7. In a bowl, add the cooked potato, combine egg, milk, pepper, salt and scallions. Smash it to a paste mixture.

8. Grease a baking tray and add the beef mixture. Above the beef mixture add smashed potatoes. Brush some oil on top of potato mixture. You can give some streaks using fork. Preheat the oven for 10 minutes and bake @ 350 Farenheit for 30 - 40 minutes. Garnish it with scallions.
